Primary Role

HR Manager needed in the St. Louis/Alton IL area to provide overall HR leadership and support to various AWE business units.

Oversees the development, administration, and implementation of human resources policies, programs and services, including recruitment, selection, retention, succession planning, legal compliance, labor/employee relations, and employment practices and procedures.

Provides support in labor relations to include contract negotiation, administration and labor law compliance.

As a member of the AWE HR Management Team, involved in strategy development and organization design.

Acts as an advisor on human resources issues to other senior management and all levels of employees throughout the company.

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for coaching HR team and business partners to create and maintain a work environment with high morale and productivity; works to foster a workplace environment consistent with the values and mission outlined by the leadership of company; delivers effective and persuasive presentations on informational and/or complex topics to employee groups and management at all levels of the business.

Provides recruitment leadership by developing the most creative and cost-effective ways of generating high-quality candidates in the marketplace to company; develops long-term relationships with organizations and individuals that will enhance the talent pipeline flow.

Creates retention programs to recognize employee potential, encourage employee development and reduce turnover.

Develops, interprets and ensures consistent application of human resources strategies, policies, programs and procedures.

Creates and implements methods and internal standards for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the HR function.

Maintains current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources.

Maintains labor law compliance and provides support for contract negotiations and administration.

Creates and implements affirmative action, equal employment opportunity and diversity processes.

Enforces policies and investigates complaints regarding alleged violations.

Leads and/or participates in other human resources initiatives as required.

Oversees the development and administration of contract acquisition and closure planning and transitioning.

Participates in contract pricing as it relates to human resources.

Supports and helps drive business change initiatives.

Skills

Strong management skills (e.g., planning, organization, direction of employees); counseling skills; strong internal consulting skills (e.g. analytical technical, problem-solving); strong interpersonal skills (e.g. tact/diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation, negotiations); strong verbal and written communication skills (e.g., presentation, listening, report writing); strong process orientation; excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve disputes and observe confidentiality; proficiency with MS Office products & Lotus Notes.

Knowledge

Current knowledge of major human resource areas (e.g. benefits, employment, labor relations) and management theories practices and trends. Knowledge of company and union policies and procedures; government laws or regulations affecting human resources (e.g. EEO, ADA, ERISA).

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field. Master’s degree highly preferred.

10+ years of HR experience, a minimum of five of which must be at the management level; previous experience with labor unions, multi-site, multi-state, multi-functional organizations; proven ability to provide vision and leadership; demonstrated capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all business units and employees in a team-oriented environment.

SPHR preferred.
